The album The Bane Grams is about imperfection and being unsuccessful in a life where nothing has really turned out as expected or hoped. It is not just written from a negative retrospective, as it is also about hope and acceptance. Acceptance of everything that comes your way, that you have to digest in order to move on. Life can be darkness, which we all face to some extent.
The Bane Grams will be released April 20th on vinyl LP and May 3rd online.
Bane Grams is the alter ego of singer-songwriter Gerben Gerrit. His music is often in dark atmospheres, especially live when played in a solo setting.
He performs his often intimate songs on a rattlingly played guitar and, in a somewhat longer set, also on piano. With his distinctive and intense voice, Bane Grams takes you into melancholy. The music touches on several genres and is sometimes reminiscent of Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Eddie Vedder and Jeff Buckley.
"While producing this album has allowed me to grow as a songwriter and artist. With the completion of the making process, the last pieces of the puzzle fell into place: the final choice of song titles, album title and artist name. To my mind, I had to detach myself from myself, who I have known all my life as a creator. Bane Grams is a name that feels like a concept and I can wear like a jacket. With that, it is an entity that stands next to my person and is connected to the period, during which the album was created and I continued to form as a musician."
